India’s Jet Airways has formed a new partnership with Air Seychelles.

The agreement will initially include codesharing on each other’s routes, but Jet said it also “heralds an era of closer cooperation” between the two airlines, which, in subsequent months, will include reciprocal frequent flyer benefits and cargo handling.

Under the codeshare deal, Air Seychelles will place its ‘HM’ code on Jet’s domestic services from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, and on its international flights between Abu Dhabi and Mumbai.

In turn, Jet will place its ‘9W’ code on Air Seychelles’ flights between Mumbai and Mahé, as well as on its flights to Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg.

“We are pleased to sign this codeshare agreement with Air Seychelles, which reflects our growing ambitions in the region,” said Cramer Ball, Jet’s CEO. “The agreement makes Seychelles more accessible to our guests, and opens up other key destinations and multiple travel options that we constantly endeavour to offer our guests.

“The Seychelles archipelago… has great appeal to business and leisure travellers and we are committed to working with Air Seychelles and the Seychelles tourism industry to continue developing air connectivity.”

Air Seychelles launched its Mumbai route late last year, and the airline’s CEO, Manoj Papa, said it has since “proven to be very popular with our guests”.

“This agreement with Jet Airways will enhance our travel proposition by offering Air Seychelles’ guests simple and convenient travel options within India,” he added.

Jet and Air Seychelles are both part-owned by Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways.
